West Coast of Tasmania

Todd and Marty from Sea Cliff Paddlers along with their mate Doug, paddled from Cockle Creek to Strahan on the wild Southwest coast of Tasmania. This 340km expedition took them along the coast of the iconic Southwest Tasmanian Wilderness, requiring complete self-sufficiency and the nerve and skills to head out through the big swells of the Great Southern Ocean. They spent 9 paddling days to arrive at their destination (with only three lay days due to heavy weather) and finished at Strahan already planning their next trip into the SW.

With more time up their sleeve, and their appetite for adventure not yet satisfied, Todd and Marty then took their Audax's to the locale of Gordon on the D'entrecasteaux Channel and headed off around Bruny Island. To bookend Southwest Tassie with a Bruny Island circumnavigation is a rare feat indeed as either trip is a substantial achievement in its own right. The circumnavigation required four very engaging days of paddling once again facing the Southern Ocean in its many moods as they worked their way along the spectacular sea cliffs.

A weather lay day in ferocious conditions and a dream run sailing before a strong tailwind back into Hobart provided the perfect finish. Todd supplied the following images of their adventures just to whet our appetites. Thank you to Todd for these Images from your epic paddles.
